Celebrating the Life Story of Our Resident Father Patrick

At Hesketh Park Lodge, we believe every resident has a story worth honouring. Recently, our community came together with Father Patrick to celebrate his story, as he has spent a lifetime devoted to faith, service and the care of others.
We are proud to continue to celebrate the life and journey of Archbishop Patrick Altham Kelly, whose years of ministry have touched countless lives. Even in retirement, Father Patrick’s faith and devotion remain as strong as ever. He is now living at Hesketh Park Lodge and is sustained by prayer, friendship and the steady grace that has guided him throughout his life. It was a privilege for residents and team members to pause and recognise the remarkable contribution he has made, both within the Church and beyond.
From an early age, Father Patrick found comfort in his Christian faith. It was something that was gently nurtured within his loving family home, and before he knew it, prayer and worship became an integral part of everyday life. He was educated in Lancashire and met life’s questions and challenges with a calm and thoughtful faith. Regular Sunday Mass became a source of reassurance and strength for him and laid firm foundations for the path he would later follow.
His vocation grew quietly and steadily over time. Through the Sodality of Mary, his life of prayer and trust in God deepened. He lived out his faith in practical ways, including caring for the poor and those most in need with the Charity of St Vincent de Paul. These early experiences shaped a life centred on compassion, humility and service to others.

He was ordained in Rome in 1962 and went on to serve as Bishop of Salford and later as Archbishop of Liverpool. He became known for his kindness, steadiness and genuine pastoral care. Those who worked alongside him often speak of his quiet strength and thoughtful leadership. His ministry has always been marked by humility and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities he served.
A particularly moving moment for our home was Father Patrick’s celebration of Christmas Day Mass here at Hesketh Park Lodge. For residents and team members alike, it was a powerful reminder of how each resident has a unique story that we are proud to celebrate and support around the clock. To witness his continued devotion was both comforting and inspiring to everybody present.
At Hesketh Park Lodge, we are honoured to be somewhere that Father Patrick calls home. Celebrating his life story reminds us of the richness of experience within our community. Every resident brings a story that deserves to be cherished.
